11 January 2021: Gudog, the peer to peer platform connecting dog owners with trusted dog sitters & walkers, today announced the acquisition of Finnish market leader Host My Pet.
Having previously acquired German platform Schnuff & Co. in 2018 and Spanish platform Pet&Net in 2019, Gudog is now looking to expand into the Nordics starting with Finland, to continue with its mission to create Europe’s most trusted pet services platform for over 300 million household pets.
Commenting on the acquisition, Gudog co-founder James McElroy said “We have admired what Mert and the team have built in Finland. The acquisition aligns nicely with our future expansion plans into the Nordics and the core values and culture of the team were a great fit”.
“A group of talented individuals has been developing the Host My Pet platform nearly for 5 years and today, with the acquisition, we are grateful to all of them for the incredible input. Gudog’s team shares a similar mission with us seeking to become the most reliable pet service for our four-legged friends”. Said Host My Pet CEO Mert Mutlu.
While Covid has brought unique challenges, the pet industry has proved recession proof and will see strong annual growth in 2021. Combined with a recent pet adoption spree across Europe that has resulted in a puppy shortage, with the purchase price for dogs more than doubling, the long term future of the industry seems brighter than ever.
